Description: Ambergate lime works showing the steep to the right of the picture.
The Lime Kiln was made of red brick. It was the final point for the railway line from Cliff Quarry (Lime Quarry), now Crich Tramway Museum, then owned by the Clay Cross Company. A local person said during the 1950's that 'it was like an inferno when you went past on the bus at night time.' Another memory was of workers coming home covered in white powder from the lime at the quarry.
