Description: Notes accompanying this image state:
London Road runs from the southern end of St. Peter's Street and was once very rural. One of the earliest buildings erected in it, in 1814, was this Swedenborgian Chapel. It was demolished in 1902, but sadly no satisfactory photographic record of it has survived. Two rival congregations of the Swedenborgians manage to erect two chapels at this period. The demise of this one was the result of their later amalgamation. The sect has always been strong in Derby.
