Description: Croft Infant School was built in 1901 and is now a Grade II listed building. It was built in Marshall Street, which linked Grange Street with Hall Street. Marshall Street and Hall Street were given their names after Alfreton's famous Victorian barrister - Edward Marshall Hall. He was a brilliant Barrister who achieved fame in the late 1800's and was renowned for his courtroom battles on behalf of the under-privileged. Sir Edward died in the late 1920's. The famous lawyer's life, and many of the sensational trials that he was involved in, was highlighted in an eight part series screened on BBC2 Television which commenced on Wednesday, 1st March, 1972 and was called - 'Shadow of the Noose'.
