This photo is of Beetwell Street looking towards St Marys Gate. The mock tudor building in the distance is the Galleon Club (The Shipp). The portacabins replaced a pub called I think it was The Prince of Wales. The scaffolding on the right is were the new police station stands. This replaced Kennings motor spares on the corner then an arch which led to a yard with houses. continuing on the main road was The Scotch Wool shop. Chas Widdowsons Undertakers with is front room being where he spoke to the bereveved and his work shop was at the back.the entrance was on the side road which had asweetshop after Widdowsons and Haggs the Butcher on the right. With a joinery firm at the bottom. if you continued down and left you came to the front doors of the houses mentioned earlier continue and you got onto Markham road.
