Description: Website contributor Bert Orwin writes: "With regards to the print of 1-8 Orwin's Row, Newbold, I would suggest that the date is much earlier. You state, circa 1950's, well I have lived in this area for most of my life and actually worked (apprentice bricklayer at 15 years of age) on the Newbold Estate for three years, starting late 1951. I do not recall any of this row, which ran on the main Barlow-Chesterfield Road, ever being present. You will note from my name, that I have more than a passing interest in the Orwin family history. The print shows the rear elevation of the property and, on closer inspection, looks quite deserted. The gardens are also void of any cultivation. I would suggest that it is more like the late 1930's to early 1940's. There is, at the present time, Orwin's Close, a group of CBC bungalows, approximately in this area. Hoping this is of some interest to you."
