Description: Print of portrait of John, Duke of Bourbon.
Quite probably John I, Duke of Bourbon (Royal Blood of France, 1381-1434) who was confined to Melbourne Castle for nine years after being captured at the Battle of Agincourt in 1415. He died in London. The only remains now visible of the castle is a wall of considerable thickness and height, about twenty yards in length.
The provenance and accuracy of this portrait is unclear given the 400-year gap between its probable subject and the making of the portrait. Can anyone provide chapter and verse on this potential anomaly?
