Description: Photograph taken after the riot of Aug. 19th and 20th 1911, following a Railway Strike. The Mayor read the Riot Act to the crowd of c.600 people. Soldiers, 2nd Battalion Royal Dublin Fusiliers, were sent from Staveley who scattered the crowd by charging at them with fixed bayonets. The rioters smashed windows and tore up fences and several arrests were made. See Barcode DCCC000313
