Description: Miners Holiday Camp was located beside the sea between Ingoldmills and Skegness just south of the Butlins site. It was originally set up as a Derbyshire Miners Convalescent Home. It later had the Miners Holiday Camp attached to it which provided 'Butlins' style holidays, with communal dining halls, dances and entertainments. It had declined in popularity by the 1970's due to the closure of many Derbyshire mines, and the desire and ability to pay for the new 'package holidays' abroad, however it is still fondly remembered for providing, what for many mining families had been their only holidays, and a welcome release in the post war period. (there is a book about the history of the camp called 'The Best Summer of Our Lives: A Photographic History of the Derbyshire Miners' Holiday Camp' by Geoff Gration)
