Description: The upper part of Lathkill Dale is a National Nature Reserve and English Nature (formerly the Nature Conservancy Council) have notified it a place of particular interest for nature conservation: a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). There are, in fact, SSSIs covering around 30% of the Peak Park. Where the River Lathkill meets the River Wye just below Haddon Hall, the water was declared by Izaak Walton to be 'the purest and most transparent stream he had ever seen'. The valley that forms as these rivers meet is one of the finest limestone dales and there is excellent trout fishing to be found here. Parts of the valley are dry in Lathkill Dale, beginning where it crosses the Monyash to Bakewell Road. (information from www.peakdistrict-nationalpark.com)
