Description: Website contributor Charles Weightman points out that the sign appears to be fastened to a post made of a length of bullhead rail and thinks there is a distinct chance that this is at the top of Sheep Pasture Incline on the Cromford & High Peak Railway, near Cromford.
However, the image came to Picture the Past in a batch of pictures of the Dovedale area and it is questionable as to whether cyclists would have been 'encouraged' to use the railway as a route for bicycles, as opposed to being warned off as trespassers.
Can anyone identify a location in the Dovedale area where such a sign might have been fixed? There is a field entrance or similar in the background that should help pinpoint it.
Website contributor Roger Broughton suggests that the location could be the steep hill where the lane from Butterton descends to Wetton Mill.
