Description: View of the side of Haddon Hall, below Terrace steps. Haddon Hall is one of the finest examples of a medieval manor house in England. The hall is one of the seats of the Dukes of Rutland and lies alongside the River Wye, just south of Bakewell. It was abandoned in 1640 by its owners, the Manners family (later the Duke of Rutland) when they moved to Belvoir Castle in Rutland, so it remained almost unaltered since the end of the 16th century. The 9th Duke moved back to Haddon when he married in 1912, and devoted much of his life to careful restoration work. The oldest part of the building is the chapel, followed by the impressive Long Gallery and the banqueting hall with its minstrels' gallery
