Description: Labelled 'Old Buxton' this is a view of the Market Place looking south with the Market Cross left of centre. A typed caption of some vintage filed with the original of this card reads 'Note the large barrel on wheels which contained water, this being the system adopted for supplying water for household use before the introduction of water pipes into the home.' Dated on the reverse 9 March 1908, although the scene portrayed is much earlier, probably dating to the first half of the 19th century..
