Description: There were once extensive coal workings below the moorland areas to the south-west of Buxton, largely served by underground levels but with some shafts. The complex of mines were known generically and at various times as Goyt Colliery, Goyte's Moss Colliery, the Level Mine, Buxton Collieries, Burbage Colliery, Thatch Marsh Colliery, and Axe Edge & Thatch Marsh Colliery.
The engine house seen here had been abandoned by the end of the 19th century and its remains have since been demolished.
