Wyatville is said to have laid out these gardens. In c 1845 by Joseph Paxton, the sixth Duke's confidant and gardener, modified these gardens and created the Serpentine Walks. You can see one of the Twelve stone urns on the slopes, carved by Robert Parsons of Bath in 1753 for Lord Burlington at Londesborough Hall, Yorkshire, and brought to Buxton by the 6th Duke of Devonshire for the landscaping of The Slopes in 1818.
