Description: In 1957, three Roman pottery kilns were discovered at the farm. These kilns are thought to have produced 'Derbyshire Ware' pottery. Derbyshire Ware is extremely hard, gritty pottery with a pimply surface and varies in colour from buff, through brick-red to dark blue-grey or purple. This pottery was produced and distributed across central and northern Britain and the 2nd and 3rd centuries AD. Some pitchers found there dated back to AD260.
