Description: John Bartholomew was the Great Grandfather of Mrs Harriet Morley, nee Bartholomew, of Belper.
He was christened at Gainsborough, Lincs, on 27 February 1768 and died in Belper on 25 July 1849. He is shown as a mill labourer, aged 70, living in Crown Court (Strutt housing) on the 1841 census and is buried at the Unitarian Chapel, Field Lane.
The Derby Mercury for 1 August states, 'On Wednesday, the 25th July at Belper, aged 81, Mr John Bartholomew, for the long period of 65 years, a faithful servant of Mssrs Strutt.'
Jedediah Strutt began his mill operations in Belper in 1777, so this is roughly accurate.
The Lincolnshire Bartholomews are related to the Scots Bartholomew map-making family.
