Description: The view shows the previous Radford's Farm which once stood at the top of Cressy Road and was demolished to make way for the building of the Town Hall and the main Post Office. The Town Hall was built from a design by Mr Benjamin Wilson in 1896-1897 and the General Post Office was built in 1900. On this photograph can be clearly seen a bay window on the ground floor. The property eventually became Mr Raynes first cycle shop which, in more recent times, became the premises of the 'Halifax Building Society'.
The Radford family moved the farming business more or less directly opposite across High Street and Griffin Radford (the Son) took over the farming from his ageing parents. Photograph 'DCHQ502268' clearly shows the transformation of the old Radford's farm site at the top of Cressy Road with High Street. The second Radford's farm was also demolished to make way for further shops to be built on the north side of High Street at it's junction with Rodgers Lane.
