Description: The bonfire was made from 2550 railway sleepers, 100 tons of timer, 200 gallons of tar, 80 gallons of oil, 200 gallons of paraffin. It stood 62 feet high (details from Ripley & Heanor news 10/10/62) standing by the bonfire is Mr Henry Parkin who worked as a gardener at Ormonde Fields House. He died in 1029. He was an ex miner. It was lit by Fitzherbert Wright of Butterley Co. He was also High Sherrif of Derbyshire
