Description: In 1792, when the Cromford Canal was opened to the southern portal of Butterley Tunnel, Ambergate Aqueduct to the west of Butterley was in need of repair. William Jessop (Butterley Ironworks) took full responsibility and paid for the £650 rebuild out of his own pocket. The aqueduct and bridge were demolished in October 1968. This view was taken from the Ambergate side.
