Description: 'Firs House' was the home of William Mortimer Wilson who was a Director of the Alfreton Colliery Company. When the second coal turning shaft was sunk at the colliery, he had the chimney for the required steam generating positioned behind the chimney of No. 1 Shaft in order that, viewed from his residence, only one chimney could be seen. William Mortimer Wilson was born in 1865 and died 22nd July, 1941 - aged 76.
