Memories of Mr Islip (1st boy on middle row) on 15 November 2001 (aged 93):- He had to leave work early to be on this photograph. The strip was red and white shirts, blue shorts, red socks with a white stripe. Meredith has the Shield, Blount the Derby Schools Trophy Cup, Daykin has the rose bowl and Bonsall is holdings the gold medals and Huckerby the silver medals. Islip and Daykin had a trial with Barnsley and Islip played for Halifax Town. Warhurst was a very good player, but when he started work, he had to have his right leg amputated because of an accident. Mr Charton died from pneumonia caused by getting wet at a football match. Somerlea Park Junior School used to be a mixed sex school. It was for seniors then. The current infants school was for infants and juniors.
