Crosses of black cattle with white cattle often result in a blue roan colouration. Such blue cattle were favoured in the Midland counties of Derbyshire and Staffordshire at the beginning of the twentieth century and were often entered in the local shows (from 'Two Hundred Years of British Farm Livestock' by Stephen J.G.
