Description: The family members (wearing a smart selection of neck scarves!) named in the picture are, far left: Fred Grainger, second from left: James Grainger, fourth from left: Bill Grainger. The location is unknown, but the men and boys look like they are sitting on sacks in a back yard of terraced-houses, outside a row of toilet closets and coal sheds. The men probably worked as coal miners in Holmewood, because the date of the picture is 1916-18 and if they had worked in any other job, they would probably been conscripted to fight in the trenches of World War 1 (coal mining being a reserved occupation). See also DCNE000479 for a picture of the same family.
