Description: The house was built in 1731 for the Grammar School Usher (Assistant Master). The inscription above the door reads (in Latin), For the perpetual use of the Assistant Master of the Grammar School of Sir Henry Fanshawe, the inhabitants of Dronfield built this house by voluntary subscription in the year of our Lord 1731'. William Allison was the first Usher to occupy this new house. In the 20th century the house became the dwelling of a Mr Fisher, who claimed to cure 'patients' with remote-control sound waves (no matter where they were), and then Mr Tyler, an internationally famous magician. The house is also known as ' Red House' because of its brick construction (Information from R Redfern's 'Dronfield's Remarkable Houses', 2001)
