Description: Only this small church remains from the original village of Kedleston. The church was removed a mile down the road to allow for the landscaping of the park around the new Kedleston Hall.
Although dating back to Norman times, the All Saints church was built mostly in the 13th and 14th centuries with a major restoration in 1884-85. It retains many interesting features but is dominated by a flamboyant tomb to Lord Curzon who was Viceroy of India. His effigy lies next to his first wife as he planned the tomb well in advance of his death.
In 1906 the Curzon memorial chapel was added by George Nathaniel, Lord Curzon of Kedleston, in memory of his beloved wife. The Church also contains other memorials to the Curzon Family.
This image is one of a collection by the famous local antiquarian, Thomas Bateman, of Middleton by Youlgreave. (1821-1861). Bateman organized his collection by inserting them into a 4 volume copy of Lysons Magna Britannia, Derbyshire, creating a fascinating and unique illustrated record of the county. The purchase of the collection for Derbyshire Libraries was made possible by the generous bequest of Miss Frances Webb of Whaley Bridge, well known local historian, who died in December 2006.
