Description: Departure of the bridal pair from Taddington Hall on 17 August 1912. Miss Louisa Anne Bramwell, aged 28 at the time, was the elder daughter of Mr & Mrs Samuel Bramwell. She married Mr Norman Thomson, a chartered accountant who was at the time working in Shanghai. His family came from Didsbury, Manchester. Mr Bramwell was senior partner in the firm Bramwell, Fern & Co, produce brokers of Manchester, Liverpool and London. The Bramwells had lived in Taddington since 1905. In 1907, Mr Bramwell made available to the village a former cow barn across the road from his residence as a recreation room for the use of men in the evenings which he equipped with a full size billiards table. This room is just off the photograph to the right. For the wedding day, Bramwell had 40-50 employees of his firm travel to Millers Dale Station by train, to attend the wedding ceremony, and were entertained for tea in the Recreation Room. The awning over the entrance to the Hall would have been erected because of the wet weather experienced prior to the day and fully expected for the day itself as the local newspaper reporter wrote, 'Early on there was every prospect of yet one more wet and dismal day to be added to the long list of unfavourable days during this wretched summer. To the delight however, of all concerned, the sun shone out quite radiantly for an hour or two in the middle of the day, and rain kept at a respectable distance during the happy proceedings. An hour later the whole countryside has again enveloped in a thick drizzling mist.' The honeymoon was an extended motoring tour. Mr Bramwell owned the first motor car in Taddington.
