Description: One village in Derbyshire where such a misunderstanding is unlikely to occur can boast one of the most Yew Trees in the whole country. The village is Barley Dale, and the old tree stands quite majestically in the church yard of St. Helen's Church. Its girth is 32 feet and whilst it's age may be slightly over estimated at 2000 years the descriptive plaque expresses itself with such enthusiasm and sincerity and builds such a fascinating picture of its life through the various kingdoms of man that its claims are well worth reading. In spite of this little exaggeration as to its age it can still probably claim to be the oldest yew tree in the country
