Description: A section of the ex. Melbourne Military Railway, as seen through the lens of 16 year old Marina Lakin now (Meakin), in rural peacetime. The Down line was lifted first during the 1960's, whilst the Up line to the right of the picture was finally lifted in the 1980's, and is now route 6 of SUSTRANS National Cycle Track Network. This section of double line working became a quite rural freight line after the war years and was seen as a shortcut by some Melbourne residents to the River Trent when in summer months they would walk the line to gain access to the nearby river Trent, a popular venue for picnics, sunbathing, and swimming. This view was taken looking towards Melbourne.
