Description: Looking west from Lower Bromsgrove Road. This street was demolished in 1964, along with many other such streets in Ilkeston which were demolished as part of the urban re-development programme between 1959 and 1971. Many areas of Victorian and Edwardian housing were destroyed all over the country at this time due to lack of sanitary plumbing, poor condition and old age. Many interesting buildings were lost before more enlightened councils and developers stopped the wholesale demolition and considered grants for the improvement of such housing, as a better alternative which helped to conserve the local character of an area.
