Description: The armistice that ended World War 1 was formally signed in Foch's railway carriage at 11 o'clock 11 November 1918. The armistice initially ran for 30 days but was regularly renewed until the formal peace treaty was signed at Versailles the following year. This is why many celebrations were held in 1919. (see DCHP000179 and others of Buxton's celebrations). The people in the picture here are wearing summer clothes and a bush next to the arch is in full leaf which suggests that this too was held in the spring-summer following November 1918.
