Description: (Note the lack of young men and fathers who would still be away at the fighting front.) The location of the party is Riley's Field. In the far distance is the railway bridge on Park Road, the detached house in the background is the rear of Granby House on Garden Avenue. The building in the immediate foreground to the right was part of the slaughter house for Rileys butcher, it was converted into a bungalow by Mr. Les Howis and was called Park View and is still accessed from the second driveway on the right from the bottom of Garden Avenue.
The celebration was for Victory in Europe at the end of the Second World War. On the 7th May l945 Germany surrendered and the 8th May was declared VE day. The war did not end completely though until victory over Japan. VJ Day is 15 August 1945.
