Website contributor (and second from the left on the first row) David Holt says: 'The Mowlands Photo was a record of the top form, 4A, prior to leaving for senior schools...The school was housed in old Nissan huts off George Street (one of the pupils in the photo lives in the street today) and they could be terribly cold in winter despite, by this time, having radiators. Miss Poole (in the photo) was a hard taskmaster and never thought I would pass the 11-plus, so to her amazement I did and went on to Sherwood Technical Grammar School for Boys, again with some of the pupils in this photo. I remember she used to drive a two tone blue Austin A55 with the registration 881 GNU! The daughter of the headmaster, Elizabeth Hill, is in the photo. Her father was a trusting and kind teacher and helped me along whilst I was there. I was born with a shoulder and neck disability, the photos show my left shoulder sloping, and Mr Hill was aware of the problems I would carry with me in the future.
Each season we produced a magazine for the "house" you were in. I was in Red and to this day have one of the productions with my own contribution, not the best! We were also taken for nature walks along Doles Lane to the cowpastures and these walks I believe helped stir my interest in natural history which I have today'. (See also PTPD002134)
