Description: The parish church of St. Martin's was founded in 1180 and is reputed to be the oldest building in Alfreton. The lower arch was built in the 12th century and the rest of the church was extended in 14th Century, and renovated in 1868 and 1898. This picture shows a medieval statue niche. The original statue is missing, replaced by another, probably during Victorian times. The niche is located above the entrance to the Church.
