Description: The back of the photograph has the following written on it:- 'Clara and myself and Ernest. Also Lady Inglefield and Mrs Wheatcroft in the picture'. The 'myself' in the picture is the mother of the donor, surname Roberts. She was 8 years old in the picture and was born in 1912. The Hall at that time was owned by a family called Sowter, who were flour millers from Derby. It is believed that Lady Inglefield is the lady in the large white hat in the centre of the photograph. Histories of Shottle, such as Mary Fletcher's Shottle: a short account of its history 1086-1981' and 'Shottle, postern and its people' are available for study at Belper Library.
