About this image
Mr Coppock was aged 14 when this picture was taken. He has just entered service as a 'boot boy' at Newark's Clinton Arms Hotel. The name of the hotel and its insignia can be seen on the jacket collar. George Coppock (1916-1982) was a native of Southwell, although later moved to Newark and worked at the Ransome and Marles ball and roller bearing factory in the town for 46 years.
