About this image
Looking north-west towards Carl Wark from near Burbage Bridge. Burbage Brook flows across the middle of the view.
Carl Wark is a promontory with vertical cliffs on all but one side, the latter featuring a prehistoric embankment. The cliffs and embankment form an enclosure that has been interpreted as an Iron Age hill fort, though the date of construction and purpose of the fortifications remains unknown. The site is a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
Can anyone identify the purpose of the building in the foreground? It appears to have since been demolished.
