The guest of honour at the event was Barnes Wallis' daughter, Mary Stopes-Roe.
Born in Ripley (26 September 1887), Sir Barnes Neville Wallis was a scientist, engineer, and inventor, best known for inventing the bouncing bomb used by the RAF during the Second World War and immortalised in the film, 'The Dambusters'.
