About this image
Mr Beever's father was a commercial traveller for flour mills and owned the Austin Seven in DCHQ008061. He and helpers turned the vehicle into the decorated ship as seen here, to raise money for the local hospitals at carnival time. This ship is the third ship they made, called 'SS Charity'. The carnival took place after the procession, on fields at the back of Belper, where there is now a warehouse.
Pictured are Mr Beever and Mrs Ethel Ashover and Mr Cyril Ashover who was the bank manager for Midland Banks on King Street, Belper.
