The Danesmoor Miners' Welfare was opened in September 1925. The money to run the scheme was obtained by putting a penny per ton on the output of coal at each colliery, and every mam working for the company was encouraged to contributer a penny per week. The scheme included all employees of the company and Clay Cross residents could become members of the Welfare scheme by contributing 4s 4d per annum.
