Birchinlee was popularly known as 'Tin Town'. it was build quickly to house the workers of Derwent Valley Water Board who were constructing the Howden and Derwent Dams between 1902 and 1916. See image DCHQ006585 for more information.
This photograph shows the waggon of Jesse Eyre of Bradwell on the right who travelled in to perform the role of butcher for the community.
