About this image
The locomotive - 69812 - is an ex-Great Central Railway Class A5 4-6-2T, built in 1912 and withdrawn in 1959. It is shown with its BR number in British Railways livery. Since it acquired its BR number in January 1950 and Scarcliffe station (and the railway line itself) closed on 3 December 1951, the date of the photo can be narrowed down to having been taken between those two dates. As there is plenty of foliage on the trees it could perhaps be narrowed down further to being in the period June 1950 - September 1951. Perhaps the photographer went there when he learned of plans to close the line, which makes 1951 more likely. The originator of this image may be Henry Priestley.
