About this image
At 300 metres above sea level, Buxton claims to be the highest market town in England. The Market Place is in the old town and is dominated by the Town Hall. The Market Place in Higher Buxton has been the home of Buxton Market since 1813, and probably before. Buxton Methodist Church was built in 1849. Also shown on the corner of Fountain Street is the former Police Station.
