A Young child playing at the side of a huge snow drift, Winter 1963
About this image
Blizzards struck Derbyshire on Saturday the 19th and Sunday 20th of January 1963 reminiscent of the harsh winter of 1947. The Buxton area was particularly affected with huge snow drift reaching the upper storeys of houses and blocking road and rail links. Temperatures of minus 12 fahrenheit were recorded at the Harpur Hill Mines Research Station.
