All Saints Church, Dale, pre 1880
About this image
All Saints Church is said to be one of the smallest in England (it measures 26ft by 25ft). The core of the structure which includes the church (left) and an attached house (right) is believed to have been the infirmary chapel and infirmary belonging to Dale Abbey. Prior to 1820 the house portion was a pub called the Blue Bell.
This view is looking south. It shows the church and house prior to their rebuilding in 1880-81 at which time the latter lost its thatched roof.
