About this image
The back of the image reads:
"Coal cutter arrives at tail gate end. Paddy at controls, Eric leaning on back end. This gate road is made by blowing up the floor of the seam, therefore it is a dint as opposed to a ripping like the mother gate where the roof is blown down. The cutter is crossing the dint on a bridge on which two men are leaning, the big wood prop is a temporary support for the roof, the ring can just be discerened on the right top corner. The floor shots have made the coal seam look grey. The round prop at top right is a Dowty Hydraulic prop which pumps up to set and releases to collapse. The face is wet, the driver is wearing waterproof britches."
