About this image
The scene in Heaton Street after heavy rainfall caused the River Hipper to burst its banks and flood a large part of Brampton. The photographer is looking north from close to the junction with Chatsworth Road and it can be seen that the water extends as far as the divergence of Rhodesia Road in the distance. A fire engine has been brought in to render assistance and a ladder at one of the windows on the left suggests a rescue has been necessary.
The fire engine carries a registration (NU 2674) issued by Derbyshire County Council between 1923 and 1926.
