About this image
Pictured is Alfred Flecknell b.1873 (Houghton Regis, Beds) d.1942 outside his butcher's shop with his son Edmund; he also worked at the colliery and lived at 42 Market Place, Bolsover. Alfred's father was Eli Flecknell (1846-1919) who was from Wingfield in Bedforshire; he moved to Carr Vale and lived at 1 Orchard Terrace with the Grooms.
Alfred's brothers William, Harry and Frederick also lived in Bolsover too and one owned Palterton Post Office; Eli's brothers John and Thomas settled in Dunstable, Bedfordshire.
Alfred married Nelly/Nellie Bowden, 1894 in Derbyshire; their children were:
Edmund: b.1895 (Alfred's assistant); Ethel: b.1897 and Stanley b.1903.
The family name was Fleckney (possibly originally Fleischner) but this was changed to Flecknell in 1915-16. Mr Flecknell moved to Carr Vale, where he had another butcher's shop.
The girl may be Alfred's daughter Ethel.
