Ashwood Dale is a narrow tree-lined valley where the A6 main road travels alongside the river Wye. The railway here was opened as the Midland's Rowsley and Buxton line in 1862, but the section from Millers Dale-Chinley-New Mills route, the latter becoming the Company's main line to Manchester.
