In June, 1981, his responsibilities were transferred to (Administration, Organisation and Training, which involved (financial matters, resource deployment, computer development (and police buildings.
Between September 1981 and February 1982, he was (responsible for the Personnel Department including (police recruitment and selection, and matters affecting (civilian staff.
Mr Smith is also a member of the North East Consultative (Committee to the. Commission for Racial Equality, and (Professional Adviser on behalf of ACPO to the NSPCC.
On a voluntary basis, until June 1983, he was County (Director for the St John Ambulance Association for
South and West Yorkshire.
His police work has been commended on nine occasions.
