About this image
The National Tramway Museum is set around an authentic reconstruction of a period cobbled street, through which the trams run and then out into beautiful Derbyshire countryside. It houses an extensive collection of trams, from both this country and abroad. The museum also has a huge photographic library dedicated to the history of urban transport, an important resource for social and local historians. The museum also houses the original 18th century facade of the Assembly Rooms, built in 1763-4, in Derby. The building was dismantled in the 1970s after a fire gutted the building in 1963.
